Five Ideas- Earth University Brain Storming

1. A summer program aimed towards educating students while increasing the data reference for Earth University.
Using treetop audio sensors the bird wild life can be observed. Songs will distinguish bird species and predict the quantity of each species.

2. A method of increasing security at the La Flor campus while easing ability to access class rooms and dorms.
The phone key chain stores all the information and necessities essential for campus everyday life.

3.Use various sensors to monitor and update real time information on trees and other plant life.
Organization: Viewing the data in most convenient format for study.

4.Create a professional network stemming from Earth University.

-Students looking to get a foot into the entrepreneurial world

-People looking to connect back to the students or Earth University studies

Distance Learning Research

Key Concepts of Distance Learning:

teaching where the student and teacher are far away from each other
real time/correspondence
long history and becoming more popular
synchronous/asynchronous communication

Positive aspects of distance learning:
expanding access, emerging market opportunity, new tech/environments, makes information more accessible both inside and outside of the institution, improves with technology, improves with computer literacy, allows a variety of teachers to input to education, multimedia

Problems associated with distance learning:
quality of instruction, hidden costs, misuse of technology, attitudes of instructors, students, administrators, low level of contact with classmates, teacher/student communication especially as the teacher can have difficulty knowing what else the students are going through, isolation, testing

SCHEDULE

1. Problem Statement Design a service that helps busy, generally in-touch people manage their social schedule (calls, texts, messages, emails) so they can be briefly out of touch but remain polite and mantain good relatonships.
2. Narrative Service in which missed calls, messages, or e-mails are compiled onto a single display which can be managed by schedule, importance, urgency, and means of response. User would determine an alert to call someone back, schedule a call, send an automated message with a time to respond further, schedule a reminder which would act as a call for both people.

EBAY

1. Problem Statement Design a service that provides online shoppers with a handy
sensibility with information about how to fix an object for sale on eBay/Craigslist that will need repair after purchased.
2. Narrative This service gives information about how to fix an item on craigslist or eBay that needs to be repaired after purchase. Provides links to YouTube, Wikipedia, Blogs, Manuals, Hardware Stores, etc. After the buyer has repaired the item they post a review and add to a bank of information for future buyers. Helps potential buyers see if a purchase is worthwhile.
3. Touchpoints:
-Website- review item postings, provide links, enter information about real life objects that need repair and recieve the same support, write and sumbit reviews
-Buyers recieve e-mail if products you might be interested in go on sale
-Provide Phone numbers for hardware stores or repair services nearby
-Printed instructions or manuels- Both printed from the computer and available in hardware stores.

Refining Concepts: New Thing Suggester

SUGGESTOR

1. Problem Statement Design a service that suggests new activities that take place close to the user based on their listed interests and responses to previous suggestions, and then directs them to participate through making reservations or buying tickets online.
2. Narrative The user makes a profile for this service and enters information about what they enjoy doing, at what cost, and in what proximity to their home. The service then generates descriptions of new activities (ex. salsa dancing, rock climbing, live music) and their cost, location, and time. The service then prompts the user to make a reservation or buy a ticket, at which point it can also suggest products, tips, music, etc. Service sends a reminder via text or e-mail at the time of the event. Afterward the user reviews the activity and recieves a new suggestion. User can skip, or dislike suggestions. E-mail or text service that updates the user of activities at random, or if something they may be interested in is happening.
